Capping rules are a fundamental part of any campaign - these can be set within the Settings page of the builder and allow you to determine how often a campaign is shown to site visitors.

Frequency capping have 3 separate options:

Capping Rule

Impact on Campaign

Impact on Other Campaigns

Campaign (Default)

Capped for one capping window

No impact on other campaigns of the same format

Format

Capped for one capping window

Once shown, blocks other campaigns of the same format from triggering

Uncapped

Can be shown multiple times per session

No impact on other campaigns of the same format

Using a combination of the above, you can stop visitors from seeing too many of one campaign or one format during a session. For example, seeing >1 overlays per session often becomes difficult to manage - this is where the Format rule becomes useful.

One capping window is set to 24 hours by default but can be altered if necessary.
